The City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department maintains a social media program for the purpose of engaging and interacting with our community, providing relevant and timely community news, information and events, distribution of crime prevention and public safety tips, for urgent notifications of critical incidents which may affect residents, business owners and visitors of the City of Northwood, and for those people having an interest in the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department.

The department welcomes a person's right to express their opinion, and encourages posters to keep comments relevant to the topic in question. Requests for Police Assistance on Social Media

The City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department’s social media platforms are not monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Therefore, it is discouraged to use social media platforms to report emergency and non-emergency situations. In case of an emergency, please dial 911. For non-emergencies, please call (419) 691-5053.  If you have information pertaining to a case that was posted on our social media platforms, you can send the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department a message via the social media platform messaging application or call us at (419) 691-5053.  Please keep in mind that since we do not monitor our platforms all the time, your message will not be answered right away.  If your message is time-sensitive, please call our non-emergency dispatch phone number at (419) 691-5053.

 

In the event you post information related to a crime on our social media platforms, you are subject to becoming a witness and being subpoenaed into court for that particular case.

 

Endorsements

"Friending" or "Liking" the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department social media platforms, or an officer or employee of the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department, does not indicate an endorsement of that person's actions or comments.

Public Records

Any content that is created on any of the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department’s social media platforms is considered a public record, and is subject to a public records request.  All records are saved and maintained for a period of time dictated by the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department’s records retention policy.

 

Moderation of Content

The City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department's social media platforms are intended to be "family friendly." To maintain a safe and open atmosphere on our social media platforms, the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department uses moderation and filtering features to limit foul or obscene content. The City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department does actively monitor the social media platforms used by the department, and will remove inappropriate content as defined below, without prior notice, and as soon as possible. The department shall reserve the right to remove and/or block anyone who posts inappropriate material as determined by the department. This material may include, but is not limited to:

 

• Comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible comments

• Profane, obscene, or pornographic content and/or language

• Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin

• Defamatory or personal attacks

• Threats to any person or organization

• Comments in support of, or in opposition to, any political campaigns or ballot measures

• Solicitation of commerce, including but not limited to advertising of any business or product for sale

• Conduct in violation of any federal, state or local law

• Encouragement of illegal activity

• Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems

• Content that violates a legal ownership interest, such as a copyright, of any party

• Harassment or content which constitutes and/or facilitates stalking

• Content which violates the right to privacy

• Encouragement of violence

• Repetitive content

• Comments which may reasonably interfere with, inhibit, or compromise law enforcement investigations, police tactics, police responses to incidents and/or the safety of police staff and officers

• Posts or comments that contain any external links

• The department does not allow posting of photos or videos by anyone other than members of the department

 

Denial of Access

The City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department reserves the right to deny access to any City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department social media platforms for any individual who violates the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department's Social Media Terms of Use, at any time and without prior notice. Facebook's Community of Standards

All comments posted to any City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department Facebook site are bound by Facebook's Community Standards, and the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department reserves the right to report any violation of Facebook's Community Standards to Facebook with the intent of Facebook taking appropriate and reasonable responsive action.

 

Twitter Rules

When applicable, the City of Northwood, Ohio Police Department reserves the right to report any violation of the Twitter Rules, with the intent of Twitter taking appropriate and reasonable responsive action.

 

Instagram Community Guidelines
